Energize aims to accelerate renewable energy adoption and enable bold climate action within the pharmaceutical value chain. This first-of-its-kind industry program will enable pharmaceutical suppliers to learn more about renewable energy adoption and contracting. This gives suppliers – who may not otherwise have the internal resources or expertise available – the opportunity to participate in the market for power purchase agreements (PPAs).

A group of industry-leading pharmaceutical companies have committed to engaging their suppliers to support the adoption of renewable energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions within their supply chains.

How it works:

Step 1: Register
First, indicate your interest in the program by clicking the Register tab on this website. Registering at this stage only indicates that your organization is interested in learning more; there is no obligation or cost to participate.

Step 2: Connect
Shortly after registration, you will be contacted by a member of the Schneider Electric Energize team. After the Schneider Electric team verifies your status as a supplier with the participating pharmaceutical companies, you will receive an invitation to a short onboarding call. During the call, a member of the Schneider Electric team will learn more about your organization’s energy profile and objectives. This information will be kept confidential.

Step 3: Learn
You will then be provided access to the Energize Knowledgebase. This portal contains materials designed to help you and your organization learn more about your renewable energy options and to answer questions such as: What are the fundamentals of renewable energy procurement? How can suppliers unify to secure competitive energy prices while demonstrating climate leadership? In addition to online educational resources, the Schneider Electric team will deliver a series of curated educational webinars covering key internal considerations and market factors relevant to renewable energy adoption.

Step 4: Act
Once you complete the renewable energy curriculum, your company and the Schneider Electric team will determine whether continued participation in an aggregated procurement program is right for you. If it is, you will advance to the next level of the program: exploration of a power purchase agreement (PPA) individually or alongside other participating suppliers via a buyer’s cohort.

What is Energize?

Energize is a collective initiative to engage pharmaceutical industry suppliers in climate action. The program is designed to provide suppliers with information about renewable energy purchases and provides the opportunity to participate in an aggregated approach to contract for renewable energy.

What pharmaceutical companies are participating?

The participating companies include Amgen, AstraZeneca, Biogen, Boehringer Ingelheim, Bristol Myers Squibb, Charles River Laboratories, Chiesi, GSK, Johnson & Johnson, Merck, Novartis, Novo Nordisk, Pfizer, Roche, Sanofi, Takeda, Teva, UCB.

What is a PPA?

A power purchase agreement (PPA) for renewable energy is generally a long-term contract (typically 10-20 years) between a renewable energy developer and a creditworthy buyer(s). PPAs enable renewable energy developers to secure financing for new wind or solar projects and generally allow buyers to purchase renewable energy in a cost-competitive manner.

What is renewable energy aggregation?

One of the objectives of Energize is to "aggregate" participating supplier electricity demand into appropriately sized and diversified groups (cohorts), that will go-to-market together to procure energy from new renewable energy projects. This renewable energy aggregation approach aims to create more buying opportunities for more companies while reducing costs by leveraging collective buying power.

Is this a global program?

Energize is open to all direct suppliers of participating pharmaceutical companies. The initial focus is on the U.S. and European markets. However, the intent of the program is to expand globally where supplier interest and market opportunity align, so please join and let us know where you have interest in pursuing renewable energy.

What is Schneider Electric and what is its role in the program?

Schneider Electric Sustainability Business (SB) has been engaged by the participating pharmaceutical companies to design and implement the program. Schneider Electric is the world’s leading advisor on corporate renewable energy purchasing, having consulted on more than 11 gigawatts of new wind and solar PPAs since 2014. As an independent advisor, Schneider Electric focuses on helping corporate clients understand the costs, benefits, risks, and opportunities of all types of renewable energy contracts. Schneider Electric will coordinate the renewable energy project sourcing

What is Schneider Electric's NEO Network?

The NEO Network is designed to simplify the renewable energy and cleantech buying process by connecting members to experts, viable projects and technologies, and exclusive market intelligence to enable and accelerate transaction decisions. Both an online platform and vibrant global community, the NEO Network provides the ideal environment for hosting the program. (Suppliers will also have the option to join the NEO Network as part of this program but there is no cost or obligation to do so.)

Why is it important for my organization to register?

Registering for the program enables your organization to learn more about renewable energy options in a low-pressure way, supported by Schneider Electric. By registering, you’ll join other suppliers learning about renewable energy and the right procurement options for your company, up to and including a PPA. There is no obligation or cost to participate.

What does the registration process require?

Registration is simple. Click the Register tab of this website. Shortly after registration and verification by your participating pharmaceutical company, you will receive an invitation to an onboarding process from a Schneider Electric representative and be provided access to Energize Knowledgebase. There is no obligation or cost to participate.

Is there a deadline to register?

No. Suppliers can register at any time.

Do I need to be a supplier of one of the participating pharmaceutical companies to register?

Yes, you need to be a supplier of one of the participating pharmaceutical companies. If you are not a pharmaceutical supplier but are interested in learning more about the program, please contact energize@se.com.

What will I have to do after registration?

Once you have registered and your supplier status has been verified, you will be contacted to schedule an onboarding call with the Schneider Electric team. Following the onboarding, you will receive your login credentials for the Energize Knowledgebase where you can access program resources and register for a series of curated educational webinars to help you learn more. These educational resources are designed to help you learn about your renewable energy options and assess whether your organization would benefit from participating in a PPA purchase individually or alongside other participating suppliers via a buyer’s cohort. Throughout the program, you may be asked to share details about your business that will allow Schneider Electric to assess your fit for the program. This information will be kept in confidence; the participating pharmaceutical companies will not receive or review this information.
